Par 5

A great way to start the round! This opening par 5 requires a well-placed drive to set up the second shot. If the pin is on the right, lay up for an easy pitch in. If the pin is on the left or middle, try to reach the green in two to open with par or better.

The green is much wider than appears and is protected by 2 bunkers to the front right. Be sure to check the wind and take an extra club. Trust the yardage and keeping the ball in the middle or slightly left is the smart play.

Aim right of the fairway bunker to find the middle of the fairway. The second shot is crucial on this hole and ideally placed 80 to 140 yards from the green avoiding the fairway bunker. The green is protected by a bunker to the left and slopes to the right and back. A good par!

Par 4

This is stroke index #1 for good reason. It’s long, uphill and on most days in to the wind! Long hitters may go for it in two but for many, a lay up to a favorite distance will give a good opportunity for an up and down. Par feels like birdie here!

Par 4/5

A drive to the left side of this narrow fairway should give you an extra 20 to 30 yards roll on this long par 4. The wide but shallow green is protected by water hazards. Clear your mind and take a deep breath before you decide to go for it in two.

From the tee aim just left of the middle fairway bunker. On the second shot there are bushes cutting down the right and water to on the left. A solid second shot will leave you 80 – 100 yards from the green and should set up par or better.

Anywhere right off the tee is dead. The best approach is to aim at the grave located in the middle of the fairway. For big hitters aim just left of the green off the tee to set up an easier approach. Beware the front pot bunker!

For long hitters check the wind before you drive which is 260 yards all carry to the green from the White tees. The percentage shot is to play it safe with a tee shot to the generous landing area. This leaves a challenging approach to an elevated green.
