Special Olympics Hong Kong Golf Programme
KSC has been the host venue for the Special Olympics Hong Kong (“SOHK”) golf programme since 2005. The programme, which is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, promotes golf to people with intellectual disabilities and organises golf training programmes for its athletes. More than 500 local athletes participate each year in the programme.
The Trust’s funding additionally covers the hosting of local golf competitions for people with intellectual disabilities and the organisation of train-the-trainer courses that target teachers at special schools and university students studying Special Education. The purpose is to provide these present or future teachers with basic golf knowledge and encourage them to promote the sport to their students.
Our Golf Professional Team has designed specific programmes and provide weekly training to the SOHK Squad. Through the coaching, apart from training up athletes’ golf skills, their confidence and team spirit in competitions have also been built up. Our Golf Professional Team has also guided them to develop their self-discipline and social skills for helping them to integrate into the community.
SOHK started participating in Special Olympics World Summer Games 2007 in Shanghai and achieved the distinguish result of winning 3 gold medals, 3 silver and 1 bronze. The SOHK Squad continues to compete in the Games which are held every 4 years with remarkable achievements.
