New Regulations
for the Automatic Telephone Tee-time Booking
System
|
|
Please note that with effect from
Sunday 1 November 2009,
both (a) tee time cancellations through the week and (b) changes
to weekday bookings must be made no later than 4:30 pm TWO
days preceding the date of play.
For example, players wishing to cancel or make changes to
a Wednesday tee-time must do so by calling the automated tee time booking
system at 2791 3380 at or before 4:30 pm on the preceding Monday. Otherwise,
the cancellation will be considered as Late Cancellation,
or the
change will not be accepted.
The above new regulations are introduced in order to
allow sufficient time for the take up of cancelled tee times by golfers
wishing to play golf and reduce the loss of tee times through cancellation.
To allow golfers time to adjust to the new regulations, a
two-month grace period will be allowed during which time penalties would be
waived. As from 1 January 2010, the new regulations as stated above will be
strictly enforced.

The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public
Golf Course first to drive green with SolarDrive |

Hong Kong
golf course becomes first golf course in the world to use solar-cell
technology by SolarDrive to power its entire golf car fleet
|
|
The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course in Hong Kong revealed its
latest ground-breaking initiative in environmental management through the
unveiling of an entire fleet of solar-cell powered golf carts. The
solar-cell roof panels, which have been fitted to the course’s existing 205
Club Car fleet, were designed and engineered by SolarDrive, a Denmark-based
firm specialising in off-grid, solar technology for mobile use, and
distributed in Hong Kong by its founding partner Vedbaek Concepts Ltd.
The initiative makes The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course the
first golf course in the world, to have adopted SolarDrive’s highly
efficient solar technology for their entire fleet of golf carts and the
largest fleet in the world to be powered by such technology. This solar
project is the course’s latest commitment to responsible environmental
management of its operations. Indeed, the initiative comes only a few months
after the Hong Kong course received official recognition for its
environmental program as winners of the prestigious ‘Asian Golf Course
Environment Award.’
The SolarDrive equipped golf carts are able to capture and convert
daylight into sufficient energy to power golf carts year-round, even on
cloudy days. Furthermore, as the carts charge whilst being driven, they are
more efficient and can out-perform their battery-powered counterparts. By
investing in SolarDrive’s state-of-the-art technology, it is estimated that
the golf course will reduce carbon emissions by up to 30 tonnes per year as
a result of the reduced power consumption requirements of the fleet.
The solar panel roofs, capable of being retrofitted to any make of
electric golf cart, not only provide environmental savings by facilitating
carbon emission free charging and driving, but will also lead to significant
financial savings for the course. It is estimated that the consumption of
grid electricity for the fleet will be reduced by between 50-75% and that
the cars’ battery life will be virtually doubled. Savings from the extended
battery life alone is expected to result in annual savings of approximately
$387,500HKD ($50,000USD) across the fleet.
Mr Peter Randow, Managing Partner of SolarDrive commented: “We really are
very honoured to have had the opportunity to assist Kau Sai Chau in their
pioneering efforts to raise environmental standards in golf course
management.
He added: “This deal is a major milestone for SolarDrive and we are
confident that more courses both in Asia and around the world will look to
adopt this technology thanks to the positive effect that it can have on both
their environmental credentials and their bottom line.”
Mr Cameron N Halliday, General Manager at The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau
Public Golf Course added: “Our partnership with SolarDrive during its design
evolution has resulted in a product that will enable us to further cut our
carbon emissions, reflecting our ongoing commitment to implement new and
innovative solutions that will help make our golf course as environmentally
friendly as possible. They have provided us with what we believe is a smart
solution that makes both environmental sense and good business sense too.”
The SolarDrive project at Kau Sai Chau is part of an innovative USD45
million city-wide Environment Project initiated by The Hong Kong Jockey Club
Charities Trust in response to the pressing issues of global warming and
climate change. The Environment Project is also spearheading environmental
awareness in the marine sector with its funding of the replacement of the
Golf Course’s existing diesel ferry service to a solar hybrid powered fleet
from mid 2010.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Mr William Y
Yiu, notes that “concern for the environment has been at the fore in
managing operations since the facilities first opened to the public in 1995
and it was very encouraging to see this latest Charities Trust initiated
project assist the Golf Course in its ongoing efforts to improve the
environmental management across all areas of the operation.”

Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public
Golf Course wins two prestigious awards |
|
30 December 2008
The Jockey Club Kau
Sai Chau Public Golf
Course at Sai Kung has been honoured with the
inaugural Asian Golf Course Environment Award, while its East Course has
been named "Best New Golf Course in Asia" in the annual award scheme
organised by Asian Golf Monthly magazine, the region's leading golf
industry publication. The awards recognise the efforts made by the course
management company to create an environmentally-friendly golf course
offering top-class services to the public.
The Asian Golf Course Environment Award was added for
the first time this year to recognise courses that have made great efforts
to protect the environment. A judging panel comprising the publishers and
environmental experts selected the winner based on criteria such as water
quality management, biodiversity, energy saving and chemicals reduction.
The Jockey Club Kau Sai
Chau Public Golf Course received acclaim from
the judges on all counts.
Meanwhile, the new East Course, which opened in April
this year, was voted "Best New Golf Course in Asia" in a poll of the
publication's readers.
The Jockey Club Kau
Sai Chau Public Golf
Course has been built and operated with a strong commitment to environmental
protection. In 2005,it became only the fifth course
in Asia and the first anywhere in China to beclassified
as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for Wildlife, recognising
its high standards of environmental management. During the planning
and construction of the East Course a number of environmental measures were
proactively implemented, including a closed drainage
system, protection of sensitive streams and the restoration of eroded
slopes. Further new ground will be broken in late 2009 when solar-hybrid
powered boats are introduced on the ferry service between the Golf Course
and SaiKung
pier to help save fuel, cut emission and reduce marine pollution.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club's
Executive Director, Charities, Mr William Y Yiu,
notes that concern for the environment has been at the fore in managing
operations since the facilities opened to the public in 1995 and that it was
very encouraging to see the latest awards recognizing the efforts of the
Golf Course in environmental management and promotion of the game of golf in
Hong Kong.
Bringing sport to the community
at large has long been a prime objective of The Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Opened in 1995, The Jockey Club Kau
Sai Chau Public Golf
Courseis Hong Kong's
only public golfing facility and aims at making the sport accessible to all,
as well as providing golf training to young people.
